64 Base64 Encode / Decode

Convert text to/from Base64, full UTF-8 support

🔒 Everything runs locally in your browser. Your data is never uploaded to any server.

About this tool

This Base64 tool converts back and forth between plain text and Base64 strings. Base64 is an encoding that represents arbitrary data with 64 printable characters, commonly used to safely carry binary or special-character content where only text is allowed — JSON, URLs, email and Data URLs.

Important: Base64 is encoding, not encryption. It has no key and can be trivially reversed by anyone, so never use it to "encrypt" passwords or sensitive data. This tool encodes and decodes locally in your browser; your input is not uploaded.

How to use

  1. Paste the content you want to process into the input box.
  2. Choose a direction: Encode (text → Base64) or Decode (Base64 → text).
  3. The tool returns the result instantly.
  4. Click Copy to grab it; a failed decode usually means the input is not valid Base64.

When to use it

  • Inline a small icon as a Data URL in CSS/HTML to save a request.
  • Carry binary or multi-line content inside JSON or a config file.
  • Quickly inspect what plaintext a Base64 string actually encodes.
  • Encode/decode tokens, signatures and similar fields while debugging an API.

FAQ

Can Base64 be used for encryption?

No. It has no key and anyone can decode it — it is only encoding. For secrecy, use a real encryption algorithm.

Why is the encoded output bigger?

Base64 represents every 3 bytes with 4 characters, so the size grows by about one third — this is expected.

Does it support Chinese / Unicode?

Yes. Non-ASCII text such as Chinese is handled as UTF-8 before encoding and is restored correctly on decode.
